1. WHY CHOOSE SHAPSHAP TRAVEL?
We have a selection of the most popular Group Tours, Fly Drives , Family Safaris and Adventures at by far the best prices without compromising on high standards. We also support and donate a percentage of our profits to organizations which are trying to make the world a better place... so indirectly you will also help some less fortunate people, the environment and your money will help with nature and wildlife conservation.
2. WHAT IS THE ACTIVITY PACKAGE?
This is an OPTIONAL additional payment. The Activity Package covers what we consider to be the essential, not to be missed activities on our tours. Ideally we would include all of these, but not everyone can afford this. This payment is 100% transparent and is listed on our website with the departure dates of the tour and in the detailed tour dossier of each tour.
If you want to include the all the activities in the Activity Package to your tour, you can pay for the complete package when you book the tour, or you can pay for it in cash on the morning of the tour departure.
If you don’t want to include the Activity Package in your tour, you can still change your mind later and pay for the activities on the spot during your tour- just keep in mind that it will be subject to availability.
3. WHAT IS THE SINGLE SUPPLEMENT?
If you wish not to share a tent or room with someone on tour, you can request to pay the single supplement and we will try our best to arrange a private tent or room. (Almost everyone on our tours shares a tent with someone from the same sex).
Please note: when you travel alone on one of our accommodated group tours/ climb Kilimanjaro/ Everest Base Camp Trek, the single supplement will be compulsory.
4. WHO OPERATES ALL THESE TOURS?
We work directly with only the top tour operators in each country to ensure you get the best value for your money and we hope to offer the best service and advice on all your travel plans. We have worked as tour leaders on many of these tours ourselves and you will surely benefit from our experience in travel- we have even climbed to the top of Kilimanjaro- the highest mountain in Africa! All tours have well trained tour leaders/ guides and drivers and all tours are in English.
5. WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE ON AN ADVENTURE TOUR?
The nature of an adventure tour tends to attract a certain age group, and experience has shown us that it is best suited, but not exclusive to travelers between 18 and 55. The majority of travelers on a camping tour are in their 20s and 30s. The average age on the accommodated tours are normally higher.
6. WHAT IS THE GROUP MAKE UP.
The average group size on an African camping tour is 18, but it can go up to 22. On some of our camping group tours the number of passengers are limited to only 16 and on the small group tours the max will be only 12. On the treks and climbs we try to limit the number in a group to only 10. There are single guys and girls, couples and friends. On average half are men and half are woman. Most groups are a makeup of multiple nationalities.
7. FOOD AND MEALS.
Included are 3 hearty meals a day (unless otherwise specified). Vegetarians are easily catered for and they are always impressed by our varied menu. You will be amazed by what our guides can prepare on a camp stove.
8. ACCOMMODATION.
This depends on what tour you choose- on the camping tours you will be staying in comfortable two man dome tents. We supply a mattress on most tours and you supply your own sleeping bag. On accommodated tours you will stay in a variety of basic hotels/ hostels/ permanent safari tents...
9. DO I HAVE TO HELP WITH CAMP CHORES?
Of course not, but you won’t be making any friends;). On our tours the guides do most of the work. Your participation in camp chores is limited- taking turns to assist with the washing up duties, putting up and taking down your own tent (camping tour) and loading your bags. Our guides do the rest.
10. HOW DO I MAKE A BOOKING?
You need to complete our booking form and click on “submit”. Make sure you fill out the form completely and that your information is exactly the same as written in your passport. As soon as we receive your booking request we will check and see if the tour of your choice has availabilities and we will try our best to confirm it within 24 hours. If it’s not possible to travel on the chosen date we will suggest other dates. If it is possible, we will confirm your booking and e- mail an invoice.
To secure your place on the tour you have to make the payment in full within 7 days.
11. DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory. Without travel insurance you won't be allowed to join the tour.
12. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MY VISAS?
You are responsible for your own visas. Please take note that on some tours you will enter some countries more than once, so make sure you have multiple entree visas in these cases. Click here to see if you need a visas for the countries you will visit.
13. TRANSPORTATION.
We mainly use big, customised Overland Trucks and on some excursions you will also use open safari vehicles, boats, small planes etc.
14. POCKET MONEY.
It is difficult to say how much pocket money you should take along for each tour. It differs from person to person and of course it also depends on your spending habits. On average we will say that € 150 per week should be enough. You could take more or you can take less. This is not an exact number! You will need pocket money for the meals that are not included in the tour itinerary, drinks, tips, curios, airport taxes and of course if you want to take part in some of the optional activities on each tour. You can use your ATM card or credit card in most places, but you shouldn’t rely on being able to use a credit card or an ATM card everywhere in Africa.
15. DO I HAVE TO JOIN A GROUP TO CLIMB KILIMANJARO?
You don't have to join a group and you can climb Kilimanjaro whenever works out best for you. Just let us know when you would like to go and how many people you want to take along with you (or you can go solo) and we will arange the climb at no extra cost. Have a look at our PDF document to see what time of the year is the best to climb.
16. HOW DO I PAY FOR A TOUR?
Option 1: The best way to pay for any of our tours is by direct bank transfer. We provide all the details you need in the invoice.
Option 2: It is also possible to pay with your credit card, but please note that an extra 3.5% charge will be added to the tour price. A "money request" will be sent to you from our PayPal account.

17. WHAT IS DIFFFERENT ABOUT THE SMALL GROUP TOURS
We are proud to introduce Small Group departures on several of our core tours. These specific departures will all have a maximum of only 12 passengers on our 24 seater overland trucks. These tours are only around 8% more expensive than their larger group tours and as such represent excellent value for money.
18. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT THESE ICONS MEAN?
