The ShapShap Travel story

The short version...

The phrase “ShapShap” can be heard all over Southern and Eastern Africa and has two different meanings. In Southern Africa it is a slang term meaning “Good Good” and is the answer to the question: How are you doing? (howzit going?)- ShapShap! In Swahili (a language spoken throughout Eastern Africa) it means “quick quick”- although nothing in Africa ever happens quickly!

ShapShap Travel was founded in early 2007 by Japie van Deventer from South Africa and Lizza Duijverman from the Netherlands.

Japie graduated from the North West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa in 1998 and has since worked, lived and travelled all over the world, but his heart has always been in Africa. He has years of experience working as a tour leader in Africa and you will surely benefit from his wealth of knowledge when it comes to adventure travel. Japie has also successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa) and completed the Mount Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal- so who better to help you prepare for the adventure of a lifetime than someone that has actually been there and done that!

In 2005, Lizza graduated from the Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She has travelled extensively throughout the world (more than 60 countries and counting), but it was Africa with its wild animals, spectacular landscapes and diverse cultures that stole her heart. She knows Africa better than most, has first hand guiding in Africa experience under her belt, climbed Kilimanjaro all the way to the top and has successfully completed the Mount Everest Base Base Camp Trek.

It was through their shared passion for travel and adventure that they decided to combine their efforts into creating their own adventure travel company- ShapShap Travel was born!

ShapShap Travel Group donates a percentage of its profits to organizations that are, like them, trying to make the world a better place. Indirectly, all ShapShap Travel Group clients are helping less fortunate people around the world and contributing towards nature and wildlife conservation.
