Each of us can do something, big or small, to help save our planet. We can’t afford to wait for our slow governments to make the serious changes needed to stop global warming and try to reverse the effects from it! We all have to do something to help. Here are some very easy and handy tips on how to do just that!

Turn off appliances such as your TV, VCR, computer, DVD- player when you’re not using it. When the little red light is still shining, for example on the TV, it is still using about 50% or more of the power as when it is switched on. So the best thing to do is turn it off completely or unplug it. Don’t use the remote to turn it off.

Unplug your mobile phone charger when you are not charging your phone. The charger is still using power even if your phone is not connected to it.

Recycle glass, plastic and paper.

Re- use your shopping-bags instead of always using new ones and just throwing them away.

Don’t let the water run while you are brushing your teeth.

Taking a shower usually means using less water than taking a bath.

Boil only enough water for what you need. If you’re going to drink only one cup of coffee or tea just boil enough water for one cup.

In winter, turn off the heating system when you are not in your home or office. In summer, turn off the air conditioning when you are not at home or in your office.

Plant more trees. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

Buy cars that are light on fuel.

If you can, cycle more and use your car less or use public transport.

Try to buy food and vegetables that are locally produced. Locally produced means less transport is needed to get them to the store than with imported produce.

Turn off lights when you leave a room.

Laptops use less energy than a PC.

Don’t ask for a receipt at an ATM.

Use a dish cloth in the kitchen instead of paper towels.

Only use your dishwasher and washing machine when it is full.

Rather dry your clothes outside in the sun or wind instead of using a dryer.

If you can, use an energy-company that provides green energy, meaning it is generated by the sun or wind.

If it’s possible, install solar panels for your home.

Dress according to the weather.

When it is cold wear something warm inside the house and turn down the heat and in summer close the curtains to keep the house cooler.

Support organizations that are doing something to promote a better planet.
