4×4 Self Drive Guided Safari
The 4×4 Self Drive Africa Adventure tour departs from Johannesburg, South Africa, and we will drive up north through Botswana and make a final stop at the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe before heading back to Johannesburg. With lots of epic adventures along the way, this will be a tour you will never forget.

De tour vertrekt vanuit Johannesburg, Zuid-Afrika, en we rijden naar het noorden door Botswana en maken een laatste stop bij de Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe voordat we terugkeren naar Johannesburg. Met veel epische avonturen onderweg, wordt dit een tour die je nooit zult vergeten.

Day 1: Johannesburg
Arrive at Johannesburg International Airport in your own time, explore the city or relax at the hotel close by the airport where you will spend the first night.
Day 2: Johannesburg – Waterberg Wilderness Reserve
Driving distance; 310km
Meals included: Breakfast
Today is the first day of the adventure. We will depart after breakfast in our fully equipped 4×4 vehicles and drive to the Waterberg Wilderness Nature Reserve. The reserve is a 860 ha private reserve, offering spectacular views over the surrounding hills and valleys. Exploring the impressive gorges with natural streams and pools is certainly a highlight together with viewing smaller game like Giraffe and smaller antelope species.
After we arrived we will have the opportunity to take part in a short introductory 4×4 driving course, where our tour guide will take us through some of the basics on handling and driving off road and how to approach certain obstacles.
We will set up our rooftop tents and enjoy our first night outside under the African sky.
Day 3: Waterberg Wilderness Reserve – Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Botswana
Driving distance; 420km
Now that you know how to handle your 4×4 vehicle it is time to hit the road again. After a quick breakfast and coffee, we will head out to the border post to enter Botswana. Depending how long it takes to cross the border we will arrive early afternoon at the reserve where you will have time to take a self-drive safari through the park, or take the time to relax at the campsite where we will spend the night.
Day 4: Khama Rhino Sanctuary – Kubu Island
Driving Distance; 260km
After waking up to the sounds of birds chirping, we head up further north to explore the mystical Kubu Island, that is the only place in Botswana that has prominent rocky features with breath taking views of the salt pans in the Makgadikgadi, as well as it’s unique aesthetic beauty, Kubu Island also boasts rich archaeological and cultural significance and is a National Monument. In the afternoon we will guided on a walk to explore the beauty and learn more about the history.
Kubu Island is a piece of untouched earth and for that reason there are no amenities at this campsite. There are pit toilets, but for the rest it is just you and nature.
Day 5: Kubu Island – Kasane
Driving Distance; 420km
This morning we will head North to towards the Chobe Region, on the drive there make sure to stay alert as there is a possibility that a heard of Elephants or Giraffe might cross the road, so enjoy the drive and “highway game viewing”.
We will embark on a late afternoon sundowner boat cruise on the Chobe river, which have to be one of the finest game viewing experiences in Africa. With over 80 000 elephant in the park alone they are a very frequent sighting. Hippo, water birds, buffalo, crocodile and puku are also viewed from the river.
Tonight you have the option to have dinner at the Chobe Safari Lodge Restaurant or at the campsite.
Day 6: Chobe Safari Lodge
Driving distance; depending on game drive
After having breakfast at your campsite or at the restaurant you have the whole day at leisure for a long self-drive game drive through the Chobe national Park. or if you prefer, book a guided safari at the lodge.
The Chobe is Botswana’s 3rd largest national park and also the most diverse and has one of the greatest concentrations of game in all of Africa. Try to spot the big 5 in one day!
Day 7: Chobe Safari Lodge – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Driving distance; 170km
With the memories of our wildlife encounters firmly etched in our minds, we cross the border to Zimbabwe this morning and travel the short distance to Victoria Falls. The bustling adventure town of Victoria Falls offers a range of optional activities for those wanting a dose of adrenaline (bungee jumping or helicopter flights over the falls) and upon arrival you will have the chance to book these various activities, or you can just spend the day at the falls and enjoy the spectacular views and scenery.
We will transfer back to our campsite at Chobe Safari Lodge for the night.
Day 8: Chobe Safari Lodge – Elephant Sands
Driving Distance; 260km
We will head in a Easternly direction to Elephant Sands Safari Camp. Once there you get the opportunity to view Africa’s largest land animal from close by at the waterhole located in the middle of the camp. You can also take a self-drive game drive through the private conservancy. Elephant Sands is located between three big national parks and being unfenced, big game roams freely across the conservancy.
Day 9: Elephant Sands – Stevensford Game Reserve
Driving distance 520km
Early morning we will head out for a long drive to Stevenson Game reserve, and upon arrival you will have the option to spend some time at leisure by taking a hike through the reserve or just relax at the campsite. Late afternoon we will have a game drive that will take us right along the mighty Limpopo river.
Day 10: Stevensford game Reserve – Pilanesberg National Park, RSA
Driving distance; 350km
We head back to South Africa and enter the Pilanesberg National Park which is located in the North West province. This is a popular park for tourists as the big 5 can be found here and also smaller game can be viewed. After arrival you can spend the rest of the day driving through the park or relax at the swimming pool at the campsite.
Day 11: Pilanesberg National Park
Today you will have the whole day at leisure and are free to drive through the park in your own time, book a guided safari, a guided walking safari, hot air balloon flight or choose to spend the day at Sun City casino and Lost City water resort, which is a short drive from the entrance of the park.
Day 12: Pilanesberg National Park – Johannesburg
Driving distance; 240km
We head back to Johannesburg where we will return our trusty 4×4 vehicles and end the tour.
